Water & Fire Damage: data recovery
Flood, spill or fire? Water and smoke damage can often be cleaned from drives and boards before the data is lost for good.
First steps
Do not power the device on. Do not dry it with heat. If it is still wet, keep it in a sealed bag so corrosion does not form while drying, and send it to us quickly.
Recovery
We clean corrosion from circuit boards and drive internals, replace damaged parts and image the data in controlled conditions.
Common questions
Should I put my laptop in rice?
No. Rice does nothing for liquid under chips, and the delay lets corrosion spread.
Can fire-damaged drives be recovered?
Often, if the platters or flash chips have not been overheated beyond their limits.
